Pauline Viardot

(1821–1910)

Born in Paris into a family of professional musicians, Michelle Ferdinande Pauline García Viardot became one of the most respected singers of her time. While it seems that somehow she didn’t consider herself a composer, in fact, Viardot’s created works include operettas, choral compositions, instrumental chamber music, and many, many songs.

Tarentelle and Madrid—both originally written by Viardot as songs for voice and piano—were arranged for solo violin by Aleksandra Maslovaric and included on the 2016 Accompanying Herself release from Feminae Records.
