(1745-1818)
Born 25 years before Beethoven, Maddalena Laura Sirmen was a talented violinist, composer, and perhaps above all, a musical entrepreneur.
A popular soloist herself, after her marriage to fellow violinist Ludovico Sirmen, Maddalena also regularly performed with her husband, including touring in Italy, England, France, and Russia.
Sirmen’s many compositions include violin concertos, sonatas for two violins and keyboard, and duets for two violins.
Included on the Feminae Records release To Sirmen, with Love are a rearrangement of the second and third movements of Sirmen’s Violin Concerto III.
